My initial reaction, on seeing this news item for the first time, was, “Is that really a threat?” After reading those two lines, I’m more inclined to think the judge made the right decision. It’s not an easy call. This is a grey area. But this guy could be dangerous. They’d better keep an eye on him.

ROb I so totaly agree with you about not giving a rat about the opinions of these closed minded high school youngsters. The pure fact in this whole matter is that this teacher is denying the religious freedoms, that e are all intiteled to” to his students. As well as the fact that he is violating a school policy. Fortunatly his religious views do not supersead those of others or the schools policy or the law.

One last point, Even if this kid was doing what he did for “Shock” how do any of us know that behind it all the “shock” isn’t intended to bring “light” to a real problem? We, don’t, and even if it was not intended to it has. I say all the better for it then. This is the only way we can fight religious intolerence is for it to be exposed for what it is.

Most teachers have a course objective, which follow a curriculum plan. It would seem to me a good teacher would be proactive so that the objectives didn’t leave room for a debate on religion or anything that would take away from the course objective or the curriculum plan. Its called covering your ass for things like this. And who is in charge of the classroom? If ‘anything’ is disrupting or taking the attention off of learning the objective, aren’t we straying and getting off the path? Being proactive clearly paves the way around misunderstandings and rediculous ego battles between children and …adults? Maybe that is the difference between a professionally, prepared teacher and this one. Sorry, but no child should have that power and no teacher should lose it like that.
